Introduction to Wind Energy: a publication of SWD in 1982
The SWD, the Steering committee Wind energy Developing countries, has been initiated by the Eindhoven University, the Groningen University and TNO in 1975 to coordinate the Netherlands' activities on wind energy in developing countries. SWD was supported by the Netherlands Minister of Development Co-operation. In 1984 the name changed from SWD into CWD: Consultancy services Wind energy Developing countries. CWD ended its activities in 1990.
SWD/CWD has published a large number of reports, among which the attached "Introduction to Wind Energy", which I wrote in 1981 at the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, on the basis of the work of many SWD experts. Translations of the report have been made in French, Portuguese and Chinese. To my surprise there is still demand for this report, although it is no longer in print. This is why I have decided to have the whole document scanned, and to put it on the website of my UCE. The basis is formed by one of the last remaining copies, owned by Jan de Jongh of Arrakis, who still uses part of the material for his wind energy courses (see also: Wind Energy; A Basic Guide, based on EWEA articles, at: www.arrakis.nl).
I trust the readers find it useful to have the original SWD report available in electronic form (for reactions, send a mail to: e.lysen@uu.nl).
